The Scottish Home Celebrates the Holidays

Every Year The Scottish Home celebrates Christmas with a holiday party for the residents and their families.  Christmas carols filled the room as residents enjoyed visiting with their families and indulging in a variety of sweets.  Performances by the Thistle and Heather Dancers  and accordion player Rich Smrha, added to the holiday spirit.  Santa paid a visit, and brought goodies for all of the children at the party as well as our residents.  This long-running tradition is the highlight of the holiday season.

A ROYAL WEDDING CELEBRATION

On Friday April 29th the residents of The Scottish Home partook in a celebration in honor of the “Royal Wedding” between Prince William and Catherine Middleton. The residents gathered in Heritage Hall where they were presented with tiaras and wedding favors, and viewed a video of the wedding that was taped earlier that morning. To make the event even more memorable, the residents enjoyed a piece of wedding cake and a glass of champagne. It was a wonderful event and everyone had a great time.

SUMMER FUN AT THE SCOTTISH HOME

It has been a busy summer for the residents at The Scottish Home. They have been outside enjoying our beautiful gardens, along with a variety of outdoor activities; such as “A Breath of Fresh Air”, exercise class, and bus rides. An annual favorite is an evening of music provided by the West Suburban Concert Band. Residents tasted the sweetness of summer while attending the Strawberry Fest at Riverside Presbyterian Church and our annual Ice Cream Social. Volunteers from the Riverside Garden Club experienced the beauty of the Shetlands patio as they presented a “Garden in a Pot” demonstration which was enjoyed by all who attended. Some of the residents went on a special outing to “The Shrine of Christ’s Passion” in St. John Indiana. Summertime is always busy at The Scottish Home, and we still have a couple months to enjoy the outdoors and more fun activities.

VITAS HOSPICE HONORS VETERANS

Andy Balafas, veteran’s community liaison from Vitas Hospice, came to The Scottish Home to honor our veterans. All were presented with a certificate, a pin, and given a salute in recognition for their years of service. The ceremony was held on the Shetlands patio where staff and family gathered around to show their appreciation to the veterans for their service to our country. It was a beautiful day and a proud moment for all of them.

Eagle Scout Project

Ben Mitchell, member of Boy Scout troop # 24 completed his Eagle Scout project at the Scottish Home on Sunday September 19th, with the help of 20 scouts from Riverside.  The landscaping project included laying sod, planting two large, outdoor, concrete planters, and trimming the bushes.  The boys worked in shifts of 10 throughout the day between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm.  Ben is the son of ISAS members, Fred and Donna Mitchell and the grandson of ISAS member Georgene Klier.  It is wonderful to have three generations carry on the tradition of support and dedication to the residents of The Scottish Home.
